In September we launched Impact Intensives, our yearlong intense discipleship process for students who want to learn what it looks like to follow Jesus in every area of life. Each Sunday evening we begin the week with a teaching about a component of discipleship, and then the participants receive some supplemental reading.  Throughout the week they gather in smaller groups to discuss the teaching and reading, and they each have a practical, hands-on application to complete by the end of the week.

Our first week began with understanding the story of God, the Bible, as we worked through the redemption narrative of Scripture together.  The book that I provided for participants was The Jesus Storybook Bible.  This children’s Bible does a wonderful job of showing how all of Scripture points to the gospel of Jesus. I can only imagine what the college students thought when I handed them this picture-filled resource, but they all have grown to love it.  In fact one of our students, Jessica, has found an opportunity to use this resource in ministering to her roommate.  Her roommate, who is going through some personal hardships, has been reading it on her own, and the two have had some great discussions about the stories.

This school year Impact began a group for students who desire to raise awareness about human trafficking and give support to Restoration House of Greater Kansas City.  This new group has had a few meetings so far, and we recently watched a documentary called Nefarious.  This documentary impacted our group significantly and we now intend to host an event on campus where we show this film again.  Our hope is to pack out the UMKC theatre with students and to invite a Restoration House speaker to share ways that we all can help bring an end to human slavery.

– PRAISE! We asked you recently to pray for God to raise up laborers to help in this gospel ministry.  We have seen this take place from within our community.
– Pray for our group to host a successful Human Trafficking awareness event.
– Pray for boldness for our community to speak the truth about Jesus in love to those around us.
