Worship Leader and Choir Director (Interim Position 6 – 12 Months)

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Lead Pastor, and in connection with the church’s mission as outlined in the Church Constitution, the Worship Leader and Choir Director will oversee the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive music program in the first service that invites the family at First Baptist Grain Valley to worship God through music. This position is a salaried, 20 hour per week commitment, supervised by the Lead Pastor and subject to the Personnel Committee.

Overall Qualifications:

1.   Be a born-again believer and baptized by immersion.

2.   Must strive to walk in holiness, reflect the person of Christ, and be gospel centered.

3.   Agree with the Baptist Faith and Message.

4.   Have a music degree or sufficient experience.

5.   Must be able to lead in worship, read music, and work with people.

Specific Duties in relation to music:

1.   Lead the 9 AM worship service on Sunday morning. This service has traditionally been mostly favorite” hymns and a few, contemporary songs. ”

• Selection of music and elements of worship.
• Produce PowerPoint music slides for Sunday worship.
• Coordinate with the church office and tech team.
• Coordinate choir specials, ensembles, and soloists to sing Sunday mornings.

2.   Provide worship for the Sunday night service.

3.   Lead the sanctuary choir.

• Build/the choir program by investing in the current program and finding new choir members.
• Oversee choir practice.
• Develop choir cantatas (generally Easter and/or Christmas).
• Plan and promote fellowships within the music ministry.

4.  Be available to lead/organize special services (For example, Christmas Eve)

5.  Organize and maintain a library of church music.

6.  Oversee the music budget.

7.  If possible, attend weekly staff meetings.

Compensation:

The Worship Leader and Choir Director is a part-time, salaried position with an agreed upon annual salary set by the Personnel Committee in conjunction with the Budget Committee and approved by the church.
