As BR-KC Baptist Association staff we rejoice in the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in favor of the sanctity of human life.
Psalms 139:13-14 (CSB) “13 For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well.”
Proverbs 21:15 says, “The exercise of justice is joy for the righteous, but terror to those who practice injustice.”
We humbly rejoice only because it is a long-awaited correction of injustice towards the unborn. We do not rejoice in any prideful way the sense of loss or indignation those who are pro-abortion feel over this decision. Further, we would want any woman who has had an abortion to know that the Lord loves them. He wants them to experience His love, tender mercy, and forgiveness and He desires that we, the Body of Christ, communicate and extend that same compassion and forgiveness. We heartily disagree with those who advocate for legal or criminal punishment retroactively for women who have had an abortion. While we acknowledge that this decision has the potential to further polarize an already divided nation, we do celebrate the Supreme Court decision because it reverses a wrong decision the Court made in the past and promotes greater democracy by sending the issue of abortion back to each state for their citizens to decide.
We believe fathers of preborn children should commit to the mother and child, and if not married be required to provide child support upon pregnancy discovery, as well as after birth, rather than support abortions or abandon their responsibility to the woman and child. This responsibility should not rest upon the mother alone.
We acknowledge that those who are pro-life will continue to compassionately and intentionally minister to women needing pre-birth assistance as well as post-birth assistance when choosing to keep their child or place them for adoption. We desire not only to be pro-life before birth but pro-life through every season of life.
