2020 has definitely been one for the record books. Covid-19, racial unrest, and political tensions, to name a few, have only served to reinforce that this earth is not our home. As we try to navigate what the new “normal” might look like, we find ourselves with unprecedented opportunities for ministry. Since the start of the official “stay-at-home” order in March, multiple churches and multiple members have been working tirelessly to make a difference.
One of those areas was the face mask project. Spearheaded by Fellowship Church in Greenwood and BR-KC, nearly 100 seamstresses made over 2,000 masks which were donated to local organizations like St. Luke’s Hospital, Phoenix Healthcare, St. Mary’s Senior Center, Overland Park Regional Hospital and individuals such as first reponders.
Thanks to The Sewing Lab in Kansas City, we were provided with kits that were disseminated to our seamstresses. Some of the completed masks were returned to The Sewing Lab where they were provided to other organizations. Linnca Stevens, Program Manager, had this to say at the end of the project:
“First, THANK YOU for all the sewing and the amazing community support that your team has done…I am so thankful for your group and as a Kansas Citian you have made an unbelievable difference. You give me faith that we will make it through this.”
The project not only provided a vital service and product, but it gave those staying at home a way to minister to those in their community working on the front lines. Here are a couple of comments left on Facebook:
When this pandemic is finally past, we will all be facing a new reality. In the meantime, while this is a season of great challenge, it is also a season of great opportunity.
We would love to hear how some of our churches and members have ministered to others since the spring. Take a moment to tell us the impact you have felt or made. Answer a few questions on this short survey…
