People Teams has always been a ministry of going out and finding new peoples tucked away in KC, and now that society is opening up we have gotten back to that. Pictured is a group from Arkansas partnering with some local believers to have over 100 conversations in 90 minutes going door to door. We look to start doing that more and more and welcome people who want to join in door-to-door outreach.

In the past six months, 800 Afghans have been resettled in KC, and this effort has included so many Christians from many organizations who have walked alongside through classes, giving rides, feeding meals, and integrating them into society. Although the Afghans come from two separate groups that do not often get along, the Christians have served as a bridge for reconciliation and peace between these Pashtuns and Dari speakers. A good tone of collaboration was set through the appreciation banquet hosted in partnership with Abundant Life Church and others for Afghans who served US military members overseas.

Ministry among African teens is still going strong through soccer, Bible study, evangelism, and trips. Pictured are the teams as they learn an evangelism tool. One kid named Patrick took our evangelism tools and immediately started sharing the Gospel in his high school. The week after the Ukraine war started, a Ukrainian man named Bowgun saw some of our kids carrying soccer shoes and followed them into the gym. After playing soccer with us, he joined the Bible study time. Although he has not focused on spiritual things in many years, he received the prayer and encouragement that we offered as he shared about the brokenness in his country. Pray for him to really embrace Jesus during this time of crisis.

One of our most mature students is named “D.” He is a Senior in high school, and he regularly picks up students and is learning to lead the Bible study time. But “D” was not always this way. He came to America about six years ago. Unbeknownst to us, his Mom was back in Africa dying from a disease. As a sixth grader, he dedicated his life to his studies so that he could soon make enough money to send to his Mom to save her life. But his ambition did not help; she died a few months after he arrived. Quietly grieving, he found our soccer and Bible study group. We did not know his silent suffering, but we enjoyed seeing him grow and take mission trips with us to Atlanta, Texas, and Summer camp. He just now felt comfortable talking about his journey, and “D” plans on pursuing aviation next year as an aspiring pilot. His most recent question was, “How do I lead someone to Christ?”

Weekly home group – in partnership with LifeConnection Church, we have started hosting meals in our home to get to know neighbors. One couple who came from Cuba follows an Afro-Cuban religion that sacrifices animals to get power and practices divination to see the future. Although we are very prayerful about the gravity of the spiritual warfare involved, the LORD has opened a door for them to start coming to English class at Palabra Viva. Pray for them to be free from bondage to this religion and to follow the One Almighty God.

And, we keep in touch with a few Muslim background believers in KC as they navigate the struggles and persecution that come with their decisions to follow Jesus. All of those who are public with their faith have lost family members and need us to become their friends and family. We also minister to others who are questioning Islam. More than one lady has experienced the difficulty of trying to raise a lot of kids alone because the husband has taken another wife and left them to fend for themselves. Two of these ladies have said that they are reading the Bible as they contemplate the hardships that life brings.

Finally, the Huesing family is overjoyed that our oldest daughter Havana has followed Jesus in baptism. Despite being the only girl of her culture in her school class, she seeks to bring her faith in God into her situations with love and boldness, and it is fun to have her as a team member on this mission to bring the Gospel to the nations in KC.
