Impact means having a powerful influence or strong effect produced by an action, idea, or event. Lenexa Baptist Church has held over 80 Impact events since 2017, both locally around KC and around the country. While they have had great success, they wanted to partner with other churches to train in the process and make a greater impact.
In 2025, Lenexa launched a Back 2 School Impact event in KC with 5 other churches. In 2026, it expanded to 19 churches in the KC metro area, all strategically located in communities to maximize the impact across the city. Each Back 2 School host location provided free haircuts, free backpacks & school supplies, health & wellness services, a kids’ fun zone, along with a food pantry and clothing distribution. Every family left hearing the gospel and being prayed with. As a matter of fact, look at these numbers and let’s celebrate what the Lord did in this:
While Lenexa led the charge, there were other organizations that helped. Convoy of Hope provided a semi-truckload of food supplies to give away for the food pantry, and Garments of Praise provided over 300 boxes of clothes for churches to distribute.
One of the most encouraging parts of Back 2 School KC was seeing churches and Christian organizations working together for the sake of the Gospel. That kind of cooperation is a beautiful picture of the body of Christ and has always been the strength of the SBC and BRKC. Together we can make a greater impact.
Different churches. Different communities. Different people. But one Lord. One Gospel. One Mission. The desire to see Kansas City transformed by the hope of Jesus Christ.
Lenexa Baptist Church deserves tremendous gratitude for helping coordinate this effort and creating an opportunity for churches to work together in reaching their communities. Mission Pastor Steve Barnes and the LBC team invested significant time and energy in helping churches prepare, and their leadership helped make this collaborative effort possible.
But ultimately, this is not a story about one church. But about Jesus.
Behind every number is a person.
Behind every family is a story.
Behind every prayer is someone who needed hope.
And behind every Gospel presentation is an opportunity for someone to encounter the good news of Jesus Christ.
To every pastor, ministry leader, volunteer, barber, food distributor, children’s worker, prayer team member, Gospel presenter, and behind-the-scenes servant who helped make Back 2 School KC possible—thank you.
You gave your time, resources, and energy. And most importantly, you gave yourselves to serve others in the name of Jesus. Your churches boldly and lovingly took the Gospel into their communities. That is what the Church is called to do.
We pray it is the beginning of many stories of people coming to faith in Christ, growing as disciples, becoming part of local churches, and joining the mission of taking the Gospel to their neighbors and the nations.
We rejoice—but we give the glory to God.
Jesus saved 130 people. Jesus was proclaimed to 1,489 people. Jesus was prayed over with 3,093 people. And Jesus’ Church showed up to serve 6,106 people across Kansas City.
